Grade 1 l How our 1st month of homeschooling went by. l Life with ZG l Homeschooling PH

Hi parents, I'm back with our monthly homeschooling update for School year 2021-2022.

Did you guys start your SY 2021-2020, already? Here's how my 1st grade, first month of homeschooling went by. l Life with ZG l Homeschooling PH

Last week was our 4th week of homeschooling and, Zoe is finally picking up her pace. Here's what happened during our first week of homeschooling. We have already finished almost all topics for the 1st quarter. Yay! It's all about mastery this week while we wait for the monthly exams. I'm also waiting for the academic plan for the 2nd quarter so we can start discussing topics for the 2nd quarter.

Before the school year starts, I usually prepare all the materials per quarter. This year, our homeschooling provider gave us sets of worksheets and PowerPoint lessons and, I'm so happy with how they are improving. But Zoe is an extra student. haha She wants almost everything personalized. So on weekends, I usually make her customized worksheets, quizzes, and notes for the upcoming week.

How do I teach my daughter?

"How do you teach your daughter?". I get these questions a lot. Before I share a glimpse of how our homeschooling day looks like. First, I want you to believe that you can teach your child. No one knows your child better than you. Second, you need to know what type of learner is your child. Don't know yet what type of learner is your child? Take this quiz. Lastly, now that you know what type of learner is your child. You can now plan and try different methods of teaching that will work on your child. Each child is unique so it's a trial and method but definitely helps to make your homeschooling journey fun and enjoyable.

How our homeschooling day looks like.

We start our homeschooling time with a prayer, memory verse of the day, Lupang Hinirang, Panatang Makabayan, and Hymno ng Cavite every single day.

Then we proceed with the PowerPoint lessons, usually, it only takes us up to 5-10 minutes per topic. Zoe has a long attention span but prefers a shorter time when presenting a new lesson to her. After that, we'll have some oral recitation/activity. Then proceed to written activities afterward.

Simple right? That's how our homeschooling looks like. Every after 1 topic, I always ask her if she wants to move to another topic or we'll proceed to the 2nd subject of the day instead. No rush, I just let her do it at her own pace. There are days when we only do 1 subject and days when we do 2-3 topics in just one sitting. It depends on her. On Fridays, it's our exam day. I usually prepare another set of worksheets for all the topics we discussed for the week.

Oh, and for us, learning happens every day, every hour, and even when she's playing on her own. It doesn't matter how long we do "work" for the day. What matters is that she's applying what she learned in real life.

Homeschooling Room

"Can you please show us your updated homeschool room?." Here's another most asked question. Honestly, last year we re-arranged our space almost every month. haha, This year, her homeschooling corner is inside our bedroom. Yes, the bed is an extension of her study table. Especially when it's bed-weather. We do most of our school work in bed. haha, I'll be sharing some snaps of our setup this year on my IG stories so be sure to follow me on the 'gram as well!

Because for Zoe the world is her classroom. To be honest, you don't need an instagrammable space when you're homeschooling. You can do it anytime, anywhere and it just really depends on your lifestyle. Oh, but if you need some tips on how to set up your homeschool room, read this.

Can't believe how days and months changed. Time surely flies. So far our journey is smooth like butter and we're on the right track. I'm really excited about this school year. I'm also enhancing Zoe's life skills this year. First off is cooking. Watch her cooks adobo on her own.

How about you guys? How's your homeschooling journey so far? Know that I am always cheering for you and your family! Take it one day at a time. Enjoy the ups and downs. Keep safe and healthy!

If you find this post helpful, please don't forget to share it with your family and friends. I'll see you on my next monthly homeschooling update.
