1. Why are you considering homeschooling?

Is it because of the pandemic we're currently facing? Is it because a family member is homeschooling? Or you're inspired by a friend who's a homeschooler? Know my top 3 reasons here.

Before anything, you must first know the reasons why you want to homeschool. Take your time to evaluate yourself, your child, and your family.

Homeschooling is not for everyone. It may work for us but it might not work for you. It's a tough decision to consider so you need to take your time in knowing your whys and use that as motivations.

2. What's your goal in homeschooling?

Now that you know the reasons why you want to homeschool. Next, to answer is what's your goal? The goal as a family, as your child's teacher and goal for your child.

List down all your goals and how will you achieve all of those goals. What are your expectations in homeschooling? How do you plan to conquer those?

3. How to get started in homeschooling?

Before you get started, you must answer these questions:

  1. What type of learner is your child?
  2. What kind of teacher are you?
  3. What does your child need?
  4. What method do you want to use?
  5. Do you prefer to make your curriculum or will it be easier to have a guide?
After answering all the questions, it's time to do your research. You can mix different methods based on whatever best suit your family. You can get a homeschool provider too. Here's a list of homeschool providers you might want to look at. Remember, there's no right or wrong way of homeschooling. So don't be afraid to try mama!

Zoe is a mix of a visual and kinesthetic learners. If you want to know what type of learner is your child. Answer these questions.

4. Do you have a support system?

Homeschooling without a support system is not a walk in the park. Based on my experience, my parents at first are not that supportive in "unschooling". But as days go by and as they saw how unschooling benefits, Zoe. They're loving the idea of it.

So let me ask you, are your parents okay with homeschooling? Or is your husband on board? As a single mom, this is one of the perks I get. I don't need someone's approval. I am in control of how I will raise my child. If the answer is yes, then good for you. But if not, don't get discouraged about it. Time will come that they will be supportive of your journey as well.

What's next?

Take your time to answer all these 4 questions. Evaluate yourself, your child, and your family. No need to rush. Remember, you are capable of teaching your child momma! If you now know your whys and you're still looking into homeschooling. Then I am so excited for you and your family to start with your homeschooling journey.
