Oh, how time flies, and just like that, it's been a month since we officially opened our school year 2020-2021. So let me share how our first month of homeschooling went by. This will serve as our online portfolio.

Zoe surprises me every single day. I honestly didn't know that she knows a lot when it comes to academics, as I am more focused on character building than academics. I was in awe as to how fast she learns.

Zoe is in Kinder 2, and she got five subjects namely, English, Math, Science, Filipino, and Sibika. At first, my main concern is how to teach Sibika? haha I didn't know K2 already got Sibika. But so far, so good.

English

For our first month, we studied short and long vowels, CVC reading, and word families. Zoe started reading at the age of three. I first taught her the phonetic alphabets. And I'm really happy to see her slowly reading on her own.

This month, I'll try to use The good and the beautiful curriculum and check if it will fit her. Let me know if anyone is also using the same curriculum and how was it for your little ones.

For writing, I started introducing her with cursive writing as I noticed she's ready already. She got very nice penmanship and enjoys copywriting paragraphs.

Filipino

Zoe is bilingual, she speaks English and Filipino. Since I saw a lot of kids having a hard time with Filipino nowadays. So I decided to raise her speaking Filipino as her first language. Because for me, it's easier to teach English than Filipino.

I had fun making some worksheets for her in Filipino. You can grab your copy, too! Mga hugis at mga kulay.

Oh, and for our foreign language, we're studying Spanish. Since it's easier to introduce this language to young kids as most of the words rhyme with Tagalog words.

Science

Oh, how time flies, and just like that, it's been a month since we officially opened our school year 2020-2021 as Kinder 2. Click to read more.

Zoe loves doing experiments. She got lots of A-HA moments and I love how curious she is. One thing I love about her is that she applies our lessons in our daily life.

Like one time, she's grilling barbeque. I was surprised when she then told me, "Mom, look at the smoke. That's a gas.", "The sauce is a liquid.", "The meat is solid." and many more.  Indeed matter is all around us. This month, we're studying the human body in-depth.

Math

Based on the curriculum we got from our provider, Zoe knows most of the topics already so we just review the topics and now focusing on numbers 1-100, addition, and subtractions. Still unsure though whether to use Montessori style or Singaporean math. Math seems to be her least favorite. Haha

Sibika

Teaching Zoe Sibika in both  English and Tagalog, to make it more interesting for her. Oh and I'm surprised that she can already recite half of the Panatang Makabayan by just listening to it. And a bit of Lupang Hinirang.

Zoe is also done with her monthly exam and I'm delighted and proud that she loves every bit of our homeschooling days. Of course, it's not always a good day. There will always be some bad days. But we'll talk more about that in my next post.

Our first month of homeschooling was a success!

To sum it all up, in a month we covered all her 1st quarter topics and now we're doing the 2nd quarter topics. And I also injected other subjects. Let me know if you want to know about our schedule.

One month down and I can say that our first month of officially homeschooling is a success!

Anyone, started homeschooling as well? How was your first month?
