3 tips on how to survive homeschooling especially when you're a new homeschooler.

Wondering how to survive homeschooling or even distance learning now that we're facing a pandemic? I have 3 survival tips for you on the blog.

We've been homeschooling for years but it's only been two months since we officially started homeschooling with a provider. And through the years I learned and experienced so many things with Zoe already. So let me share some things that I learned with you guys today, and hopefully, you'll find this helpful.

1. Pray for a lot of patience.

I'm telling you, you need tons and tons of PATIENCE. Now that you're the teacher-mommy, pray for a lot of patience. There will be days that you'll doubt yourself if you're doing the right things when nothing seems to fall in its place. But please trust yourself, mommy, because you are capable!

When you're homeschooling expect that some days, your kids won't listen or do their works.  Especially if you have Kinder student like mine or younger. When that happens, take a deep breath, walk away, and try to compose yourself. Stop, instead of insisting to teach them or continuing the activity when both of you are not in the mood already.

Lately, I'm getting a lot of messages asking me how am I doing it. But like most of you, I'm still a work in progress. I snap at times too. After all, no one is perfect. On my next blog, I'll be sharing how to overcome bad days.

2. Always be adapting.

I'm thankful that Zoe is very adaptable and all the long hours of lesson planning and activity making paid off. I modify and teach my daughter according to her type of learner. It's such a helpful guide when you know what's their type of learner. That way, you will have an idea on how to teach them to maximize their engagement. As for us, we're covering the topics faster than I expected and finished the topics for each quarter in just 3 weeks because I know what type of learner is Zoe. Take this quiz if you still don't know what type of learner is your child.

It's also important to know your child's strengths and weaknesses, also what excites them and frustrates them. So take the time to observe your child.

3. It's okay not to stick to the plans.

What I love about homeschooling is FREEDOM. There are times that I don't stick to my planned activities or subject for her for the day. And that's totally okay. Don't get frustrated when you used all your "ME" time just to make and prepare for your kid's activities for the next day but ended up not using them as planned. Flexibility is the key!

Plans are just plans. Take it as a guide and not a rule.  So learn to be flexible. Follow your child's lead. Like now, we're studying the life cycle of a butterfly. It's not part of our topic but since Zoe is so invested in it, I let her. And we're both learning and having fun as we observe and study the life cycle of a butterfly.

Our homeschooling days went by faster than I thought. So many learnings and realization. Indeed, homeschooling is worth it! Thrilled to new experiences and lessons life will throw us this journey.

How's your homeschooling journey going, parents?
